Two Golden DiaStar Skeletons Join the Autumn Line-Up
Rado has released two golden-toned versions of the DiaStar Original Skeleton for the autumn season. One edition is finished in a warm rose gold colour, the other in a familiar yellow gold tone, and both are priced at EUR 2,600 or USD 2,700.
A 38mm Case with a Radially Brushed Ceramos Bezel
The case measures 38mm in diameter, 45mm in length and 11.9mm in thickness. The middle case, caseback, crown and bracelet are stainless steel finished with a polished gold-coloured PVD coating. The bezel is made from Ceramos, Rado’s proprietary high-tech composite of ceramic and metal, and it is PVD-coated and radially brushed to match each edition’s gold tone.

Faceted Sapphire Above the Open Dial
A sapphire crystal sits over the dial, hexagonally faceted so that it forms a central square with sloping flanks, and it carries an anti-reflective coating. Anyone curious about how that treatment works on a domed or shaped crystal can read more in our piece on anti-reflective coating. The skeletonised layout beneath it is the point of the watch; for background on the genre, our guide to skeleton watches covers how the style turns mechanics into decoration.
Golden Movement, Black Ring, Suspended Markers
The chapter ring is a black or brown annular ring printed with white minute markings. Golden hour markers are suspended over the movement, and the indices as well as the hour and minute hands are treated with white Super-LumiNova. The central seconds hand is white in one edition and black in the other, while the pivoting Rado anchor sits at 9 o’clock in gold.

Calibre R808 in a Golden Coat
Power comes from the skeletonised automatic calibre R808, coated in a golden colour, with a horizontally brushed finish on the train bridge. The calibre is a modified, skeletonised variant of the ETA Powermatic 80 family. It delivers an 80-hour power reserve and runs at 21,600vph, or 3Hz, with 25 jewels and displays of hours, minutes and central seconds.
Rubber Strap with an EasyClip Buckle
Both editions are fitted with a brown rubber strap closed by Rado’s EasyClip system. The pin buckle is steel with a gold-coloured PVD coating, matching the gold-toned case hardware. Through the sapphire caseback, the golden anchor-shaped rotor decorated with Geneva stripes is visible as it winds the barrel.
To see the small details up close, a watch loupe helps.
Between autumn releases, a round of Watchdle is a quick way to test how well you know dials like these.
FAQ
What movement details sit beneath the skeletonised bridges?
The calibre R808 uses a Nivachron hairspring and is regulated in five positions. Beyond those adjustments, it is a skeletonised derivative of the ETA Powermatic 80 family running at 3Hz.
How do the two references differ?
The R12166159 is the yellow gold PVD-coated edition, while R12159309 is the rose gold PVD-coated edition. Both share the same 38mm case, skeletonised R808 movement and brown rubber strap.
How water resistant are the new DiaStar Skeletons?
Rado rates both golden editions at 100 metres of water resistance. That figure applies to the rose gold and yellow gold versions alike, despite their dress-leaning gold-toned finishes.
